Characters

There are 12 starting characters in Mario Kart Wii and there are 12 unlockable characters, summing a total of 24 characters within the game. The characters are divided equally into the classes, light, medium and heavy. Each class has their own advantages and disadvantages, however each character has unique attributes.

The characters will determine the statistics of the vehicle, so be sure to choose your character wisely to match up with a vehicle (kart or bike) which you feel comfortable with. The differences between characters in the same classes are very slight, so this should not prevent you from choosing your favourite character.

Starting Characters

Lightweight Class

Lightweights have good acceleration, however they have a low top speed and can be knocked about by heavier characters easily.

Middleweight Class

Middleweights have average statistics and do not excel in any particular area. Middleweights are usually recommended for novices.

Heavyweight Class

Heavyweights have a high top speed, however have poor acceleration. They can knock lighter oppononents easily.
